The North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition is a Minnesota non-profit corporation serving the communities of Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach, Orono and Spring Park. Members of the Board of Directors are members of our communities. They meet quarterly to support the Orono Police Department with funding and programming to help the Department achieve its mission. Priorities in funding are carefully considered and mutually agreed upon, thus meeting the needs of the community.
The Board of Directors manages the Crime Prevention Fund. If you have questions about the North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition, or would like to serve, please call President Gretchen Menzel at 952-249-4700.
Tax deductible donations may be made to the North
Tonka Crime Prevention Fund at P.O. Box 86 Crystal Bay, MN. 55323.
Funding is often used to purchase equipment that the Police Department would not otherwise be able to procure. Recent donations from the North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition and the State Bank of Long Lake have enhanced the ability of our officers to respond to critical incidents. We were able to replace outdated rifles. All of the squad cars are now equipped with new AR-15s and the police officers have completed extensive training in their use.
We also purchased a “less-than-lethal” device known as Taser. It momentarily disrupts the central nervous system and causes a dangerous person to collapse. Use of the Taser is expected to reduce potential liability in use of force issues and reduce officer and subject injury.
The North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition offers reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for serious crimes.
