The Orono Police Department has been proud to sponsor a bike patrol for several years. Five officers have voluntarily participated in this program.

Bike patrol officers enjoy the positive aspects of a traditional foot patrol such as the opportunity to meet and greet residents in the communities they serve, and they welcome the chance for the physical activity while on patrol. The intermittent presence of these officers on remote trails has served as a deterrant to illegal activities in the area.Bike Patrol Image

The officers patrol the Luce Line, area boat landings, local parks, and neighborhoods. The bikes give them extra mobility in crowds and so are especially helpful at community events like parades and fairs.

Members of the Orono Police bike patrol receive 40 hours of special training conducted by a nationally recognzied bike patrol expert.

We are proud of the job our bike officers have done and know their presence will continue to help make our community a safe place to live, work and play.
