Officers of the Orono Police Department promote partnerships with the community in order to solve problems. Our philosophy is based on the concept that the police are the people and the people are the police (the foundation of community policing).

The most important piece of crime prevention advice we can offer is to be a good neighbor and be a good witness.

Sometimes people tell us they thought about calling us, but didn’t want to “bother” us because they didn’t know if what they saw was important. For example. . .

Recently, we received a call from a resident when the office opened one morning, relating that the previous evening he had seen some people trying to break into his garage. Since they left when he called out to them, he elected not to inform us till the next day. Unfortunately, his neighbors were not so lucky. Several had items stolen out of vehicles and garages. If we had been notified immediately, these thefts might have been prevented.

It's never a bother - we want to hear from you. Pick up the phone and call 911, or if you're not comfortable calling that number when it's not an emergency, call us at 952-249-4700 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or after hours at 763-525-6210. Help us help you.
