"Is there a plan for disaster in our area?" Unfortunately, this question is in the forefront of our thoughts as of late. Orono and the cities around Lake Minnetonka created a regional operations plan to manage major disasters including explosions, releases of hazardous materials, enemy attack and other similar types of events which may pose a potential threat to public health and safety in the Lake Minnetonka region. Each of the communities and organizations has many capabilities and resources, which could be used in the response to any major incident. These include the facilities, equipment, personnel and skills of both government and nongovernment professions and groups.
Members of the Lake Minnetonka Regional Emergency Preparedness Group meet monthly to ensure the effective coordinated use of resources in order to maximize the protection of life and property, ensure the continuity of government, sustain survivors, repair essential facilities and utilities.
