Orono Area Neighborhood Alert
June 18, 2003
On Sunday, June 15 a young woman described as being a tall, thin Asian female in her late teens, asked to use the phone of a residence in the County Road 6 area of Orono. She said she had been locked out of her house on Homestead Trail.
The resident said she would get her phone and bring it out. Upon turning to walk back into the home to get the phone, the Asian female, without invitation, entered the home and followed the homeowner inside.
Once in the home, the Asian woman was greeted by the male resident of the house and a conversation ensued. The homeowners did not feel this conversation was consistent with a person who had been locked out of her house. A short time later an older gray Chrysler style van with two black males came and picked her up.
No one matching this description lives in the area.
At this time, the police department believes that this suspicious incident was possibly a pretext to a home invasion robbery or other criminal activity. We advise never admitting strangers into your home and to call 911 immediately and report all suspicious incidents so that we can check them out. Don’t ever feel your police department is too busy to come and check things out.
Our best crime prevention advice is “Trust your instincts, lock your doors, and call 911 immediately if you see suspicious activity.”
