Orono Police to Host Citizens Academy Fall 2004
The Orono Police
Department will be hosting its first Citizens Police Academy in September,
2004. Citizens 21 years of age and over who live, work or own businesses
in the cities served by the Department--Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach, Orono
and Spring Park--are invited to take part.
The Citizens Police Academy was established to build on the relationship between
the Community and the Police Department by increasing participants’ awareness
of safety issues and by giving citizens a better understanding of the issues
and risks that shape the way officers perform their duties.
The Academy will include 8 sessions covering narcotics, DWI, the court system,
safety issues, booking and jail, domestic violence and offer interactive sessions
on traffic enforcement, use of force including firearms training simulation,
and other topics.
The 2004 Academy is scheduled to run weekly on Wednesday evenings, 7 to 10
p.m. from September 8 through graduation on October 27. There is no charge
for participation.
