Second Orono Citizens Police Academy Graduation
![]() |
On November 3, the second group of participants graduated from the Orono Citizens Police Academy. Ten citizens of the cities served by the department received certificates, Citizens Police Academy shirts, and congratulations from Chief Stephany Good and other members of the Orono PD.
Class members attended eight 3-hour sessions covering topics ranging from crime scene investigation, to internet safety, to DUI and domestic violence in our community. Participants got the chance to act as the police officer in law enforcement scenarios ranging from traffic stops to domestic violence calls. They were able to administer field sobriety tests to volunteer potentially impaired drivers.
Officers conducted the teaching sessions and played the roles of both
violators and mentors to the students learning to react appropriately
in high-pressure
situations. Participants received instruction in the use of force ranging
from effective verbal commands to tasers and handguns.
At the ceremony, Chief Good congratulated the graduates and asked them
to become active partners with the department. Like last year’s participants,
the Chief will invite them to provide feedback on issues that arise in the
community
throughout the year, involving the police department.
If you are interested in learning more about the Academy, or would like to be contacted when the next session is planned, contact the Orono Police Department at 952-249-4700.
