Orono Police to Host Sixth Annual Citizens Academy Fall 2010

The Orono Police Department will host its sixth Citizens Police Academy in the fall of 2010. Citizens 21 years of age and over who live or work in the cities served by the Department--Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach, Orono and Spring Park--are invited to take part.

The Citizens Police Academy was established to build on the relationship between the Community and the Police Department by increasing participants’ awareness of safety issues and by giving citizens a better understanding of the issues and risks that shape the way officers perform their duties.

The Academy will include 8 sessions covering narcotics, DWI, safety issues, booking and jail, domestic violence and offer interactive sessions on traffic enforcement, use of force, crime scene investigation, and other topics.

The 2010 Academy is scheduled to run weekly on 8 Wednesday nights September 8 through October 27 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is no charge for participation but class size is limited to allow maximal time for each participant in the hands-on sessions.
