The Orono Police Department has two Community Service Officers (CSO's), whose primary duty is to handle animal control problems throughout the jurisdiction. The CSO jurisdiction covers Orono, Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach and Spring Park. We also provide domestic animal control in the cities of Tonka Bay, Excelsior, Greenwood and Shorewood by contract.

Each city has an ordinance that states dogs are not allowed to roam off the property of the owner unless under the control of the owner on a leash. If a dog is found in violation of the ordinance, the dog may possibly be impounded to a kennel and the owner fined. All dogs must be licensed by the City in which the owner resides.

Dogs impounded within Orono, Long Lake, Spring Park and Minnetonka Beach are impounded to the Wright County Humane Society, 4375 Hwy. 55 SE, Buffalo, MN (763-682-1029).

Dogs impounded within Excelsior, Shorewood and Tonka Bay are impounded to Paws, Claws and Hooves, 10500 Great Plains Blvd., Chaska (952-445-6403).

To obtain a dog license, kennel license, or a copy of the ordinance, please contact your City Hall.
