Youth diversion programs are offered as an alternative to court appearances, court-directed community service, or receiving citations (with fines) to first time offenders charged with a misdemeanor. These programs are intended to serve as an incentive to change behaviors toward a more successful future.

The Orono Police refer juveniles to the following organizations:

Northern Star Juvenile Diversion
5300 Glenwood Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55422
763-231-7242 or
763-231-7243

This program provides a positive alternative to formal court proceedings for motivated first-time offenders. Through structured activities and community service, the program aims to reduce the recidivism rate among these youthful offenders.

Change Direction
2720 Highway 10 N.E.
Moundsview, MN 55112

This program works specifically with first-time offenders of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana laws up to age 21.
